Beginning Band
Students in Beginning Band learn crucial fundamentals of instrument sound production, written music reading/comprehension, group performance, and listening skills. This class is perfect for those who have never been in band or who wish to learn a new instrument. Two concerts per semester, the first scheduled during school hours and the rest in the evening. Advanced Band Students in Advanced Band have taken at least one year of band and/or have been taking private music lessons on their instrument. In this class, they learn intermediate/advanced skills and concepts relating to solo and group instrument performance, ear training, music composition, and extra-musical connections. Two evening concerts per semester. Jazz Band Jazz Band is an after school club that rehearses on Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in the high school music room. Students are required to be enrolled in Advanced Band, Advance Orchestra, or a high school music class to participate. Students in Jazz Band learn basic jazz techniques and styles such as swing, Latin, funk, and rock, and they will occasionally solo improv. Two evening concerts per semester and possibly daytime performances for school events. Percussion Ensemble Percussion Ensemble is an after school club that rehearses on Thursdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in the high school music room. Students are required to be enrolled in Advanced Band, Advance Orchestra, or a high school music class to participate. Students in Percussion Ensemble learn snare rudiments, mallet/keyboard playing, and auxiliary techniques. The ensemble is purely made up of percussionists, which sounds scary, but is still fun.
