Concert Band (PELB07 or MUS 151/152/251/252, Ensemble I/II)
Concert Band is made of students from all high school grade levels. At least two years of band experience is required for enrollment. Students will gain unique experiences by performing in chamber ensembles in addition to the full band context throughout each semester, and juniors and seniors can audition for college ensemble credit, resulting in more advanced and rigorous opportunities in the ensemble. Two evening concerts and various in-building daytime performances per semester. Jazz Band (PELJ07) Jazz Band is also made of students from all high school grade levels, and students are strongly encouraged to be additionally enrolled in a band or orchestra class. Students who are not enrolled in another ensemble class require music teacher approval to enroll in Jazz Band. Students will learn and perform various jazz styles/techniques including but not limited to: swing, blues, Latin, funk, bossa, and improvisation. Students will also study contemporary and historically prominent jazz artists and present their findings to their peers. Music History - Romantic to Present (MUS122) Students in this course will examine classics of the Western Music tradition and study by listening to, reading and writing about the works of prominent composers in five majors eras of music. This course will introduce the student to vocabulary and components of music to guide them in listening critically to music and developing the ability to describe and comment on the music heard. This college credit course also provides students with awareness of live, musical performances in the northern Colorado area. |
